Williams, Rooney families grow

Wednesday, October 1, 2014 – It was a great week for giving birth, at least for a few country musicians.

Holly Williams and husband Chris Coleman had their first child, a daughter, Stella June on Tuesday. Williams said on Twitter, "Hello world! Our hearts are mush and we are thanking God every single second for this healthy miracle of life." Williams is the daughter of Hank Williams Jr.

Rascal Flatts' Joe Don Rooney and wife Tiffany Fallon welcomed their third child, daughter Devon Olivia, on Monday. The couple also have Raquel Blue, 4, and Jagger Donovan, 6.

The Highway CD review - The Highway
Let's get it out of the way right up front-yes, Holly Williams is the granddaughter of Hank Williams and the daughter of Hank Jr., but her last name is about the only thing she shares with them, given that her own music hews closer to a rootsy Americana vibe than any kind of country, classic or otherwise. Her latest album is her first independent effort after releases on Mercury and Universal South, and it's a more subdued, acoustic-based sound that dominates throughout, like Kim »»»
Here With Me CD review - Here With Me
With a lineage like Holly Williams', it would be expected that there be some reference to her family on her sophomore album. And it's there, too, but maybe not as upfront or in-your-face as the family mentions of her half-brother Hank III or her daddy Hank Jr. Mama, is a thank you note to her mother for letting her develop her own relationship with her father instead of pushing her own thoughts on her daughters. Let Her Go is to her father as he struggles to let his daughter fly the nest. »»»
Editorial: Walking the talk – When names like Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Waylon and the Hag are invoked, you're talking hard core country. These are the touchstones of country , the guys who made country music what it was and still is (or maybe can be). When these folks would sing about being down-and-out and the rough-and-tumble, they knew of what they were singing about. Fast forward a few years to the country singers of today. »»»
Concert Review: Turner pleases the traditionalists – Josh Turner is a hard-working citizen, a man of faith and a loyal father and husband. He also happens to be one of the youngest members inducted to the Grand Ole Opry. In short, he is the embodiment of country music's champion of the everyman. This night was special for him. He was celebrating an anniversary with his wife and his 18th with his label MCA.... »»»
Concert Review: Not much really changes for LaFarge – Just one look at the stage made it clear that this was not going to be a typical night with Pokey LaFarge. There were only a few guitars to be seen, which meant that LaFarge was going it alone. "I've been touring for years with a band," LaFarge told perhaps a few hundred people before he had even played a note.... »»»

Chip Kinman celebrates brother, career on "Sounds Like Music" For a brief moment last summer, the news of Tony Kinman's death was, if not greatly exaggerated, then at least fortuitously premature. The roots rock icon, known for his work in The Dils, Rank and File, Blackbird and Cowboy Nation with his younger brother Chip, had been diagnosed with cancer in March 2018,... »»»
Shiflett learns "Hard Lessons" Until recently, Chris Shiflett took a somewhat obsessive/compulsive approach to his music career. For the past two decades, Shiflett has been the primary guitar foil for Dave Grohl in Foo Fighters; early in his tenure, Shiflett was so self-deprecatingly... »»»
