Carolina Country worldwide

Mike Sudhalter  |  April 6, 2007

I'm currently living in California, but I've been spending a lot of time in Carolina, virtual radio-land Carolina that is.

I recently discovered an online radio station Carolina Country Radio that plays mostly classic country as well as independent country artists. While the Internet station is based in North Carolina, it has disc jockeys from around the world (Australia, Mississippi, Arkansas, New York).

There are three things I've loved about listening to this particular station. Number 1 - there are no commercials. Number 2- you can chat with the DJs and other listeners, and request songs. Many times, the DJs will play the songs for you and announce that it's going out to you. Number 3-I've became a big fan of Australian Country Music.

Prior to listening to the station, I always thought Australian Country was Keith Urban or Sherrie Austin. They are fine artists, but I've been exposed to more traditional-sounding Australian Country.

It's probably like people in a foreign country who may think of American Country Music as Garth Brooks and Shania Twain when there's really more traditional artists like Daryle Singletary, Mark Chesnutt and Joe Nichols.
