George Strait opens New Cowboys Stadium
Mike Sudhalter | June 7, 2009
Hey y'all. I just got back from Arlington, Texas at 4:30 a.m., I watched the historic George Strait concert at the grand opening of the New Dallas Cowboys Stadium.
A review (and additional blogging) on the show will be on later today on Country Standard Time.
The stadium, as I expected, was amazing. But the first event could have gone much smoother.
According to some stadium employees, they hadn't even started job training until the day before the event. Lines were too long for food; restroom lines, however, were far less of a problem. And parking/traffic was a nightmare.
Lee Ann Womack filled in on the opening slot for Julianne Hough, who is suffering from strep throat. Womack set it was fitting that a Texan - she hails from Jacksonville, Texas (southeast of Dallas) - opened the new stadium. Oklahomans Blake Shelton and Reba McEntire followed Womack's set, and Strait (a Pearsall, Texas native and longtime Cowboys fan) played for about 1 hour, 45 minutes to what appeared to be a capacity crowd. Oklahoma residents are, for the most part, Dallas Cowboys fans.
More details to come on the show...
