Pop in Country

Mike Sudhalter  |  July 11, 2009

When country stars go pop, few - if any true country fans - like it. But what happens when they bring pop into country, while still keeping it country.

I was listening to the late Michael Jackson's "Man In The Mirror" and hoping that a country song would cover that song. That song is just begging to be covered as a country song, but I think few artists would want to cover a song from a legend like Jackson.

Perhaps country artists could record a tribute album to Jackson; Who would sing "Beat It" and "Billie Jean." Do you think it would be an album worth buying?

I saw the Casey Donahew Band concert Friday night in Spring, Texas and a review will follow shortly.

But Donahew and Co. incorporated "Ice Ice Baby" and "Gin and Juice" into their live show; only, they were both done in classic Donahew, South Fort Worth, Johnson County Texas-style.

This is kind of random, but I thought it was funny. I met a girl on Wednesday, and I asked her about the tattoo on her neck. She said it said, "Gary," the name of her ex-boyfriend. I asked her what the bigger pain in the neck was - Gary or getting the tattoo. She just laughed.

But back to Casey Donahew, I found some footage of a concert on YouTube where they cover rap songs in their own unique fashion.
