Casey Donahew heats up Big Texas

Mike Sudhalter  |  April 28, 2011

The Casey Donahew Band is one of the hottest acts in Texas/Red Dirt Music right now

How important is it to come out of the gate with a song that will get the crowd going? Very.

Casey Donahew Band would sometimes start their show with "Hunter S", but last Friday - their first appearance at Big Texas North in Spring - they kicked things off with "No Doubt."

That's a great song, but there's nothing that can fire up CDB fans like "Stockyards."

Donahew wore his red Texas Rangers hat backwards, showing that he likes representing the Fort Worth area in nearly everything he does.

I liked the fact that he shared with the crowd that "Stockyards" is so popular throughout Texas (and the Southwest) because it's about a hometown, not necessarily Fort Worth. But there's no way you can't get pumped up for that song, if you've even spent a few minutes in the Stockyards.

It was good to see CDB cover the Black Crowes and Matchbox 20. They're pretty versatile, and they often put some rap music into their show.
