Matt Stillwell Interview

Mike Sudhalter  |  April 29, 2011

When it comes to country music, Texans can be picky.

But North Carolinian Matt Stillwell entertained the crowd at the Firehouse Saloon just as well as any Texas/Red Dirt act that's played the legendary Houston bar - where he opened for Average Joe's Entertainment label mate, Corey Smith

His ability to turn a Rock ballad like Oasis' "Wonderwall" into a rollicking country song, to his sense of humor and fun-loving, toe-tapping songs like "Dirt Road Dancing" proved to be a hit with the local Texans.

And if you can play something that they can dance to, that goes a long way to making a Texas Country crowd entertained (and involved in the show).

I caught up with Stillwell after the show, and we talked about music, cover songs and his Texas connection (his producer is from San Antonio).
