Relaxin' In The Country

Mike Sudhalter  |  June 25, 2007

I had so much fun this weekend, hanging out and having a picnic with my wife in the Sierra Nevada mountain range. It's so great to get away from the rigors of daily life for a little while.

We brought a small radio player and sat by the lake, but the country station came in crystal clear, even from about 100 miles away its home base.

A beautiful mountain lake, some dogs, great food and the one you love. Life can't get any better than this! Who says you need to go on a cruise or to Europe for great fun? We simply made trips to Target and the grocery store before going on this two-hour trip.

There are a lot of country songs about enjoying life and taking it easy. When my family comes to visit, they're always in such a rush and hate getting lost. I will never get or use a GPS system. I love getting lost. It's part of life's experiences. Figuring out problems and coming across things you might not have otherwise.

When I'm taking it slow, I try to "live with no sense of time" as Kenny Chesney sings in "I Go Back". Other songs that speak to this carefree lifestyle are "Free and Easy (Down The Road I Go)" by Dierks Bentley and just about anything by Brad Paisley from "Ticks" to "Mud on the Tires".

My favorite line, relating to this theme, is from Paisley's "Little Moments" - "When she misreads the directions, we're lost but holding hands."
