Kellie Pickler

Mike Sudhalter  |  June 25, 2007

I've never watched American Idol, but I heard about Kellie Pickler after she was eliminated from the show.

It would have been easy to dismiss her as the next bubbly, high-energy singer when she hit the charts with "Red High Heels". Her next single, "I Wonder", shows a lot more depth.

At the CMA Festival, I noticed her crying during the song. I respect her for recording a song that's so personal, never really getting a chance to see her mother and not knowing where she is. She's been able to keep an optimistic attitude despite all of the challenges she faced as a youngster.

I haven't listened closely to the rest of the songs on the album, but I expect Pickler to stay on the scene for a while. During the Chely Wright Reading, Writing and Rhythm Concert, Pickler covered Dolly Parton's "9 to 5". She can shine with her material or others.

Here's a link to the "I Wonder" video.
