Gas-for-Country Music
Mike Sudhalter | August 15, 2011
With gas prices hovering around $3.40, nobody is happy.
Those who travel a lot find themselves filling up nearly every day, and road trips are becoming more few and far between.
Recently, I found one small silver lining in purchasing gasoline. It's a small one. But, hey, these days, you have to take what you can get.
Texaco is giving customers free country music downloads when eight gallons or more are pumped. At my local gas station, they were pretty lenient about it - granting my a download card after I pumped just 7.5 gallons of gas.
Hey, if I have to pay an arm-and-a-leg for gas, why not get at least a small trinket in return?
The downloads have music of aspiring country artists who competed in the Texaco Country Showdown.
There are several categories - Summer Sweethearts, American Pride, Wide Open Roads. and Honky-Tonk Music. And each of them has a video download for a well-known country music artist, along with the half-dozen or so songs by the upstarts.
It's a pretty slick marketing move by Texaco (no pun intended..hehe), and it's definitely made this country music fan decide to get his gas at Texaco whenever possible.
