Ready, Set...Download

Donald Teplyske  |  March 18, 2012

I was up early this Sunday morning- well, early for me- and actually accomplished a few chores before sitting down to listen to WDVX.com (before it seems to have lost its connection to the rest of the land) and read the newspaper. Eventually, I got the urge to see what was new on eMusic as I still have about $20 in credit for this month to use up.

I was thrilled to see a new batch of Rebel releases from the 70s, 80s, and 90s have shown up there and at iTunes this week. Included in the offerings are several albums I don't yet have in my collection; I'll need to plan my downloading carefully over the next couple months.

Amongst the albums listed today in the 'new arrivals' section of eMusic are albums from Bill Emerson ("Gold Plated Banjo"), Jimmy Arnold ("Rainbow Ride" and "Strictly Arnold"), Eddie Adcock & Don Reno ("Sensational Twin Banjos"), Ralph Stanley ("Let Me Rest on a Peaceful Mountain" and "Old Home Place"), Summer Wages ("Reflections" and "Can't Stop Now"), The Forbes Family ("Gleams of That Golden Morning" and "I'm Just a Pilgrim"), Larry Rice ("Time Machine" and "Hurricanes & Daydreams"), Josh Graves ("Josh Graves"), Bill Harrell & the Virginians ("After the Sunrise") and Benny and Vallie Cain and the Country Clan.

I believe I've seen some of these releases digitally before, but I'm looking forward to downloading several as I consider my eMusic subscription allocation this month and next.

By the way, if you're interested, several Murray McLauchlan titles from the 70s and 80s have also appeared on eMusic this weekend.

Also, thanks for the positive feedback on my James Reams update of earlier this week. As I wrote to someone who contacted me, Tina was one of the rocks in my life and while my loss is in no way comparable to James', I do miss her wit and wisdom daily. I'm glad James is making music; I only wish I could get to California this coming week! Wouldn't that be fun?
