Gloriana: Love, Ambition, and all that Jazz

Jessica Phillips  |  July 20, 2009

The young, upbeat quartet Gloriana probably doesn't mind being compared to other popular harmony-based groups like Little Big Town or Lady Antebellum, but they are keen on trying to get out of the "four voices and a poppy song" box that was their first single, "Wild at Heart."

"We kind of stepped out of the box and put some jazz harmonies in that you won't hear in country today. We also have some classic country on the record." says Cheyenne Kimball, who also handles mandolin and guitar for the group , in addition to vocals.

With a slot on the recent CMT Music Awards telecast as well as an opening slot on Taylor Swift's current tour, it seems the group is off to a good start. They recently released the music video for their second single, "The Way It Goes." "Honestly, the fact that we're on the road playing music right now and traveling on a tour bus and being able to do what we love - we're happy doing this," says Kimball.

Little Big Town's Karen Fairchild and Jimi Westbrook got hitched back in 2006. Could we expect a love connection in Gloriana? "Absolutely not. We're all just like brothers and sisters. Honestly, we spent so much time together - there's just no romantic things going on. It's all like the smells and stuff, you know, living with guys. It's kind of gross."
