Taylor Swift Sweeps Country Music Awards

Jessica Phillips  |  November 12, 2009

Taylor Swift swept the Country Music Awards last night, becoming the youngest person to ever win the prestigious Entertainer Of The Year trophy. She also won for Female Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year (Fearless), and Music Video of the Year.

THe CMA also surprised Swift with the CMA International Artist Achievement Award while backstage during dress rehearsals for the show. The International award recognizes outstanding achievement by a US-based artist who contributes to the awareness of Country Music outside the United States.

And just how did Swift celebrate her victories? According to her Twitter, she stayed up until 4:00am this morning having a cereal party with her folks. "What a night," she tweeted. "This is magical. I have said 'I Love You' to so many people tonight. I can't stop hugging people."

Backstage after the awards, Swift fielded questions about her win. "I never imagined that the unattainable thing that I'd held in my mind, my imagination, would happen to me at 19," she said. "I couldn't be more grateful. But I love a challenge, and right now the challenge is to find the next challenge."

"I didn't expect that I was going to win entertainer of the year. I'm just, you know, at a loss for words. Absolutely. I feel very lucky to have been able to experience this. In a way, I see it as having happened fast, but I also see it as a gradual build.

I've watched the CMA Awards every year of my life that I can remember. So I know what this means, and that's why I'm at a loss for words right now. It feels like just yesterday I was knocking on doors saying 'Hey, will you listen to my demo?'

I was an opening act for every single person I was nominated against in the entertainer category."

With Swift being the opening act for her competitors for Entertainer of the Year, I'm sure Kellie Pickler and Gloriana would love to repeat that feat.
