It's What I Do (Capitol Nashville, 1996)

Billy Dean

Reviewed by Mark "Brink" Brinkman

After a long vacation from the recording business, Billy Dean's back! The sabbatical seems to have rekindled his musical fire as Dean comes back stronger than ever. While ballads will always be his strong suit, he branches out in this project and shows he can rock with the best of them. "When Our Backs Are Against the Wall" has all the grit and feel of a garage band. His voice soars on the title cut along with the heart-wrenching "In The Name of Love." The album features some of Nashville's best songwriters including Max T. Barnes, Mike Reid, Pam Rose and Mary Ann Kennedy. The song selection is wonderful and he attacks the material with a new vitality. If you are a fan, you will want to add this to your collection.
