Millennia (Pinecastle, 2000)

Scott Vestal

Reviewed by Jonathan Colcord

"Millennia seems to be less of a serious endeavor, and mostly in the realm of fun with new Scott Vestal originals "Angel And Chi Chi," "Hey Mister Banjo," and even the old rock song from Yes, "Long Distance Runaround" which features a vocal from John Cowan so similar to Jon Anderson's that it is almost frightening. It is one of only two true vocal numbers on the recording. Jeff Autry, Randy Kohrs, Mark Schatz and Wayne Benson all reappear as do percussionist Pasi Leppikangas, piano player Reese Wynans, guitar player Jim Hurst, and fiddlers Stuart Duncan and Rickie Simpkins among others. Fans of progressive/melodic banjo a la Bela Fleck will enjoy this recording.
