Same title as Lee Greenwood's Christmas CD, different results for Suzy Bogguss. This grossly underappreciated talent shines like the great Northern star from word one. Why on Earth wasn't this album a major release?
Enchanting, clever takes on "Mr. Santa" and "Sleigh Ride" highlight a talent that's yet rosy and atop a game that seems to have all but shut her out. Nevertheless, treated to 12 wrapped tight tunes that stretch from a swish 'n' swaying "Winter Wonderland" to one of the finest renditions of "O Holy Night" to come along in many moons, Bogguss' album makes strong the argument that her album is the year's best holiday release. Simply powerful.
Best of all, though, Bogguss bares her country roots with a hooked-on-hoedown "Two-Step Around the Christmas Tree." Sounds hokey, and maybe it is, but it's the best of a star-topped Christmas album from one of country's finest voices. Somebodyy sign her...please.
