22 More Hits (MCA Nashville, 2007)
George Strait
Reviewed by Rick Bell
So, why add one more George Strait greatest hits album to your collection, other than it kicks off with his hit single, "How 'Bout Them Cowgirls," and, well, the fact that it's George Strait?
This makes hit collection number 6, and "Cowgirls" isn't even fresh material, appearing on 2006's "It Just Comes Natural."
Think of this as your Strait mix CD or maybe the Strait shuffle on your iPod. There's no rhyme or reason to follow 2004's "Desperately" with 1985's "The Cowboy Rides Away," then "Lovebug" from 1994. It's not chronological, based on a songwriter or producer or even on an era or theme. It's a collection of damn good music that's been riding shotgun in our pickup since Strait burst on the scene in 1982 with "Unwound," which for no apparent reason follows 2001's "If You Can Do Anything Else."
Consider it instant gratification. A ready-made George Strait mix, no net-surfing needed.
