Randy Kohrs

Reviewed by John Walker

Randy Kohrs is in high demand around Nashville, as an established picker and Grammy award winning record producer. It may be time to add accomplished songwriter and singer to his fast growing resume as well. Kohrs came to Nashville at age 21 from his native home in Iowa to break into the music scene. One of his first jobs was touring with Hank III as the lead guitarist. He has since appeared on more than 500 albums and toured with Dolly Parton and Tom T. Hall.

Kohrs latest continues to stretch the genre boundaries by showcasing his immense abilities, including self-producing the record. His seamless blend of bluegrass, traditional country and blues is astounding. The CD is a mixture of five originals co-written by Kohrs plus a few covers highlighted by three classics. Kohrs does a very good job making each his own, however - It Has Been So Long written by Webb Pierce, More About John Henry written by The Storyteller Tom T. Hall, plus a captivating rendition of Del Reeves' This Must Be The Bottom. Closing out the record is a great original blues number co-written by Kohrs Down Around Clarksville that showcases his vocal prowess.
