Taylor Swift cleans up again

Country Standard Time Editorial, December 2009

Once again, Taylor Swift has struck it rich. The teenager (can't say that for much longer) received eight Grammy nominations on Wednesday night with everything from best album to best country album. A very nice accomplishment for the country superstar with a massive teenage audience.

The road to taking home a Grammy will not be easy, especially considering Beyonce goes head to head with her. Beyonce received the most nominations of any artist with 10. Both were nominated for album, record and song of the year.

This has been a huge huge year for Swift. She cleaned up most recently at the Country Music Association awards and has gained considerable attention touring with Keith Urban and more recently headlining her own shows.

Thanks to Kanye West, Swift has gained even more attention. There was a silver lining with West's stupid antics at the VMA awards show. And while West heaped praise on Beyonce, chances are that will not help Swift one bit in terms of a backlash vote because Beyonce seemed just about as or more surprised than Swift at what he did. Beyonce showed a lot of class that night.

Even if Swift does not win a single award at the Grammys, she has come very far very quickly in the music field. Just how long she will be considered a country artist now remains to be seen given her crossover status.
