Memory problem
Country Musings by Robert Loy, March 2003
Your new single 'Have You Forgotten?' asks if I have forgotten "how it felt that day to see (my) homeland under fire and her people blown away." You want to know if I've forgotten when the twin towers fell and all the lives that were lost on 9-11-2001.
Well, I'd like to answer those questions.
No.
I have not forgotten, will not forget, could never forget if I live to be 100. Your song goes on to imply that if I do remember I should get all gung-ho about the war Mister Bush is determined to start in Iraq.
I have a couple questions for you, Mister Worley:
Have you forgotten that Saddam Hussein and Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11? Have you forgotten that as hard as hard as Bush's myrmidons have tried to find a link between Hussein and al-Queda, they can't do it?
Before you go questioning my memory, let's see how far back yours goes.
Have you forgotten how un-American it is to start a war? Do you remember Sen. Joseph McCarthy and the whole "if-you're not-with-us-you're-against-us" mentality? Have you forgotten that it is patriotic to question your leaders, especially one who seems so hell-bent on starting World War III for personal reasons. (There may be valid reasons for starting a global conflict, alienating almost all of our allies and ignoring the majority of Americans who do not want this unjust war - but to get back at Saddam cuz he cost your Daddy the election in 1992 sure ain't it.) Do you remember all this, Darryl?
Cuz I gotta tell ya, it look like you're the one with the memory problem.
