Underwood, Nelson release new albums

Friday, September 14, 2018 – Carrie Underwood is out with "Cry Pretty" today, while Willie Nelson released his third disc in 11 months, a tribute to his late friend Frank Sinatra.

Underwood continues with a pop/rock bent on her latest with the title track the first single. Underwood had a hand in writing 8 of the dozen songs, including the new single "Love Wins." This was her first album for Capitol Nashville after spending her entire career on RCA. "Cry Pretty" also marked the first time she self-produced, working with David Garcia, who co-wrote and co-produced "Meant to Be."

Nelson explores the Great American songbook once again, something he first did four decades ago with "Stardust." Long-time producer Buddy Cannon and Matt Rollings produced the new set. The music includes such hits as "Fly Me to the Moon," "Summer Wind" and "My Way."

Asleep at the Wheel, the kings of Texas swing, are out with their first disc of new material in a decade, "New Routes." AATW did an album with Willie Nelson ("Willie and the Wheel") and also did two albums worth of Bob Wills tribute songs.

Steve Forbert is a rootsy folk performer. He's out with "The Magic Tree" as well as a memoir, "Big City Cat - My Life in Folk-Rock ."

Veteran bluegrass band Nothin' Fancy is out with "Time Changes Everything" on Mountain Fever. Founding members Mike Andes (mandolin/vocals), Mitchell Davis (banjo), and Chris Sexton (fiddle/vocals) are joined by new members Caleb (guitar/vocals) and James (bass) Cox. Andes sings on 8 of the 12 tracks.

Underwood always sings well, no matter how her songs are arranged, but it's a true treat to hear that voice without much of the big production that usually accompanies it. ...
CD review - My Gift It makes logical sense that Carrie Underwood, arguably mainstream country music's best pure vocalist, would make a Christmas album. And make no mistake about it, this is a 'Christmas' album, as opposed to a 'holiday' release. These 11 tracks are nearly all spiritual in nature. Therefore, you won't hear about Santa, reindeer or even toys under the tree. The only truly secular track is "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas," which is not – by a long ...
CD review - Cry Pretty Carrie Underwood's life was reading straight from the storybooks: one of the few American Idol Winners with ongoing success; a professional athlete for a husband; a beautiful baby boy. The string of great fortune turned sharply in 2017, when Underwood began the unfathomable experience of three consecutive lost pregnancies. This was atop a frightening fall at her home that ended with her face in nearly 50 stitches. Sharing these moments with her fans makes the beamingly-beautiful singer ...
