Country Hall announces layoffs
The CMOF will remain closed through the end of the month as a result of COVID-19.
A total of 73 staff members will be laid off with another 101 being furloughed, effective June 18. The cuts affect a total workforce of about 400 at the museum.
A "challenging business environment unprecedented in the museum's history" led to the layoffs, museum CEO Kyle Young said in a statement.
"Since closing March 13, the museum has lost millions of dollars in budgeted revenue," Young said. "Our economic setbacks, coupled with the uncertainties of the future related to the pandemic, make it necessary to take these measures now to protect the institution and ensure its future."
The CMHOF and its ancillary properties - Hatch Show Print, Historic RCA Studio B, the CMA Theater at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum and the Taylor Swift Education Center - will remain closed through Tuesday, June 30.
"The health and safety of our guests and staff are our top priority, and with that in mind, we have made the decision to extend our temporary closure," said Young. "When we reopen our doors, measures and protocols will be in place to help ensure a safe and healthy environment for our visitors, employees and the community."
