Shovels & Rope return to childhood

Friday, February 5, 2021 – The husband-and-wife duo that comprise Shovels & Rope - Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent - have gone the children's route on "Busted Juice Box Vol 3." The collection is geared towards children's songs with help from other artists, who are parents. Sharon Van Etten helps out on The Beach Boys' "In My Room." The War and Treaty, John Paul White, members of Deer Tick, The Secret Sisters and The Felice Brothers all lend their support . Songs include "Tomorrow" with The War and Treaty, "My Little Buckaroo" with M. Ward and "What a Wonderful World" with White.

Uncle Walt's Band, which consisted of Walter Hyatt, Champ Hood and David Ball, originally put out 15 songs in a private pressing of a live disc recorded in Austin four decades ago. The music is being resurrected with 21 songs on a disc from Omnivore.

After putting out his first solo album in four decades a few years ago, Rod Abernethy did not wait so long to release "Normal Isn't Normal Anymore." The North Carolina native recalls The Avett Brothers vocally.

CD review - Little Seeds Shovels & Rope have made quite an imprint in wider circles since receiving honors as best new band from the Americana Music Association for their formal debut "O' Be Joyful" in 2013. Two more albums - "Swimmn' Time" and a covers collection, ...
CD review - Busted Jukebox Vol. 1 Leave it to Americana duo Shovels and Rope to release one of the better albums of the second half of 2015! And all with the help of some classic tunes and a bevy of friends to help them out. It ends up being an extremely fun, breezy romp through songs that shouldn't sound as perky as they do. Yet after the initial moments of Neil Young's "Unknown Legend" with Shakey Graves assisting them, the listener gets the sense they've fallen into something well worth repeated listens. ...
