Morris drives "Circles Around This Town"

Friday, January 7, 2022 – Maren Morris dropped a new song today, "Circles Around This Town," plus a music video.

Morris wrote the song with her husband Ryan Hurd, Julia Michaels and Jimmy Robbins and produced by Greg Kurstin. "More music from Maren is imminent," according to a press release. The video was directed by Harper Smith.

"I could see the visuals for 'Circles Around This Town' the moment I wrote the song," Morris said. "I've always been so inspired by the industrial, blown out colors of music videos from the '90s, so Harper Smith, and I wanted the aesthetics of this video to reflect that grainy, devil-may-care attitude of all my females heroes from that era: Sheryl, Fiona, Alanis."

"Obviously, having a penchant for the nostalgic, we decided to recreate my teenage bedroom and pin old photos of me as a kid on the walls and have me typing on an old PC computer. I knew I didn't want to take anything too seriously in this video, so all our amplified 'signs of the universe' are purposefully campy, but they also ask the viewer, 'Is the universe actually showing you signs or do you just know when you need to make a real change?' 'Circles Around This Town' is my story, so I felt like I truly got to relive my journey from Texas to Nashville again."

CD reviews for Maren Morris

CD review - GIRL Maren Morris, who had a huge pop hit with "The Middle," is never going to be anybody's ideal traditional country singer. Although, thankfully, there isn't anything that mind-numbingly beat-driven on her "GIRL" album, this is a full-length that will likely appeal as much to Morris' pop fans, as her country followers. The first great song, "A Song For Everything," addresses that mysterious intersection between one's favorite songs and significant life events. ...
CD review - Hero Maren Morris scored a hit out of the box with "My Church," the best of 11 songs on her major label full-length debut. The Texan infuses the song she wrote with uber producer busbee (he's worked with everyone from Keith Urban on "Ripcord" to 5 Seconds of Summer and Shakira and is one of three producers here including Morris) with mighty vocals powering a midtempo, soulful reading extolling the redemptive powers of playing music with the windows rolled down. ...
CD review - Maren Morris After going the indie route in her native Texas, Maren Morris releases a five-song EP to serve as an intro for the hoped for masses. Morris, who has penned songs for Tim McGraw and Kelly Clarkson, starts off with the edgier sounding "My Church." With an easy-going pace, Morris is elastic with her words, puts a bit of twang and gospel feel into her delivery and sings with authority when she asks "Can I get a hallelujah?/Can I get an amen?" But her salvation is FM radio - ...
