Tyminski pays tribute to Rice

Thursday, June 30, 2022 – 14-time Grammy Award-winning guitarist and singer Dan Tyminski pays tribute to the late acoustic guitar ace Tony Rice on a forthcoming five-song EP, "One More Time Before You Go: A Tribute To Tony Rice," out July 22.

Molly Tuttle and Billy Strings are among the players.

Tyminski wasn't really a six-string picker, favoring mandolin or banjo until he heard Rice. Hearing Rice kick-off "Ten Degrees and Getting Colder" with J.D. Crowe and the New South for the first time, Tyminski took notice.

Upon hearing of Rice's death in 2020, Tyminski wrote a song for Rice as a way to relieve some of his grief. "I cried all day on day one, and on day two, had written the instrumental part." The song ended up being called "One More Time Before You Go," and grew into the title track of Tyminski's new EP.

Tyminski released "Church Street Blues" featuring Molly Tuttle today. Sticking closely to Rice's arrangement, Tyminski and Tuttle cross-pick their way through the long-beloved tune, trading solos and sharing vocals on the chorus.

For "One More Time Before You Go," Tyminski called fellow guitarist and multiple IBMA Award-winner Josh Williams, who had also played with Tony. Jerry Douglas, Sam Bush and Todd Phillips, play on the song as well.

The track list is:
Church Street Blues (featuring Molly Tuttle)
One More Time Before You Go (featuring Jerry Douglas, Todd Phillips, Sam Bush, Josh Williams)
Ten Degrees And Getting Colder (featuring Dailey & Vincent)

CD review - Church Street Blues We lost guitarist Tony Rice far too soon (at only 69 in 2020), However, we can still enjoy the master's work with this vinyl reissue of 1983's "Church Street Blues" album. Although Rice is mainly thought of as a bluegrass artist and was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame in 2013, this album is as much folk music as it is bluegrass. Rice sings these songs with a gentle vocal tone not unlike that of John Denver. With songwriters like Bob Dylan, Jimmie ...
CD review - God Fearing Heathen No one can accuse Dan Tyminski of rushing product to market. "God Fearing Heathen" is the 14-time Grammy winner's first solo album in six years, and it's his first bluegrass album in 15 years. It's also his first-ever album of original bluegrass songs. Tyminski, who has been a member of Alison Krauss & Union Station for nearly 30 years, earned international solo fame when he provided the vocal for George Clooney's performance of "Man of Constant ...
CD review - Southern Gothic Dan Tyminski, known in this collection only as "Tyminski," tackles mainstream country music or what passes for it these days on "Southern Gothic." Tyminski seems an unlikely candidate for the world of FGL or Dan + Shay, but his new collection of songs has a lot to offer. Tyminski has an unassailable background as a player of bluegrass and mountain music, but "Southern Gothic" shows influence from the time he has spent in the world of EDM (electro-dance music). ...
