Parton receives $100M Bezos Award honor for charities
Monday, November 14, 2022 – Dolly Parton received $100 million through the Jeff Bezos Award for Courage & Civility to dispense to charities of her choice.
"When people are in a position to help, you should help," Parton said in receiving the honor from Bezos, who founded Amazon, and Laura Sanchez, who is involved in the award. "And I know that I've always said, I try to put my money where my heart is. And I think you do the same thing. I will do my best to do good things with this money."
The award recognizes leaders who "aim high, find solutions and always and do it with civility," said Sanchez.
Bezos said Parton "embodies these ideals so thoroughly. She gives with her heart. What she's done for kids, literacy and so many other things is incredible."
Parton has long been involved in literacy programs and helping the less fortunate.
