Cleveland, Blackberry Smoke's Starr enjoy "One Horse Town"

Friday, February 17, 2023 – Bluegrass fiddler Michael Cleveland teamed up with Charlie Starr of Blackberry Smoke for today's release of their rendition of Blackberry Smoke's "One Horse Town."

The track features vocals from Starr and Cleveland's longtime Flamekeeper bandmate, Josh Richards, buoyed by the instrumental backing of Flamekeeper.

The track marks the fourth song out from the 12-time IBMA Fiddle Player of the Year and GRAMMY Award-winner's forthcoming album, "Lovin' Of The Game," coming March 3 on Compass Records.

"One Horse Town" came out yesterday. Cleveland departed from the traditional bluegrass sound. The song follows the releases of last month's "For Your Love" featuring Billy Strings, the LP's lead single "Sunny Days (Are Comin' Once Again)" in October 2022, along with the title track "The Lovin' Of The Game" released in December.

Marking Cleveland's sixth studio album, the disc was produced by Jeff White, Sean Sullivan and Cleveland. Appearing on the dozen tracks are Bela Fleck, Billy Strings, The Travelin' McCourys and Vince Gill.

CD review - For the Lovin' of the Game "Lovin' of the Game" is full of gems and could easily be named 'Michael Cleveland and Friends.' Cleveland is both the lead musician and a contributing band member on each cut. Cleveland is virtuoso on the fiddle. He is a top draw on the concert and festival circuits and is the most decorated 'Fiddle Player ...
CD review - Live From Capricorn Sound Studios Blackberry Smoke's covers EP is not a tribute to just one group. Rather, it's a celebration of one particular recording studio, Capricorn Sound Studios in Macon, Ga., instead. Blackberry Smoke has become one of the best modern Southern rock revivalists, so it follows logically that the group would salute the studio home and city to many of its primary artistic inspirations where some of the songs were originally recorded. This six-song release includes a couple of The Allman ...
CD review - The Southern Ground Sessions Blackberry Smoke's "The Southern Ground Sessions" EP is five versions of songs from the band's recent "Find a Light" album, along with a cover of Tom Petty's "You Got Lucky," which also features vocalist/violinist Amanda Shires. The project takes its name from the Southern Ground studio in Nashville, and this band, which can ramp up its music to Southern rock power - especially in concert - takes a few moments to quiet things down. ...
