Perry returns with "If I Die Young Pt. 2"

Monday, May 1, 2023 – Kimberly Perry, who first gained fame as a member of The Band Perry, returns to her songwriting roots with a sequel to a familiar story – "If I Die Young Pt. 2" – available via RECORDS Nashville/Columbia Records this Friday.

The song, based on The Band Perry's biggest hit, "If I Die Young," is her first single release as a solo artist and will be featured on her forthcoming "Bloom EP," out June 9.

The song features new verses and a sound filled with nostalgia.

Perry said, "I felt like the story wasn't finished. There needed to be a sequel that talked about where my head is these days now that I've experienced so much life – I'm having a baby, I'm married, I've moved to Nashville. I've seen all of these dreams come true since writing the original version.

Produced by Jimmy Robbins, "Bloom" paints the picture of a woman who has experienced life's highs and lows and found her own voice. Perry penned the entire record herself, alongside other hit songwriters including Robbins, Nicolle Galyon, Jesse Frasure, Sasha Sloan, Casey Brown and Parker Welling.

The track list is:
If I Die Young Pt. 2 (Kimberly Perry, Nicolle Galyon, Jimmy Robbins)
Burn The House Down (Kimberly Perry, Jimmy Robbins, Sasha Sloan)
Cry At Your Funeral (Kimberly Perry, Jesse Frasure)
Ghosts (Kimberly Perry, Nicolle Galyon, Jimmy Robbins)
Smoke 'Em Too (Kimberly Perry, Casey Brown, Parker Welling)

"'Bloom' is a record I've been dreaming of making since I was a kid," Perry said. "It's been a really rewarding experience to think in a highly feminine way. It's really pulled together all of the threads of what I've always been drawn to musically and lyrically."

Perry recently signed to RECORDS Nashville/Columbia Records as a solo country artist. She also signed a global publishing deal with Warner Chappell Music and Songs & Daughters Publishing. Perry is set to make her solo artist debut at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry on Saturday.

Since 2005, Perry has been on the music scene as a founder of The Band Perry with her brothers. They had hits with a self=titled debut in 2010 and Gold-selling "Pioneer" in 2013. Hits included double-Platinum "Better Dig Two," and Platinum "You Lie," "All Your Life" and "Done," and Gold "Postcard From Paris" and "Don't Let Me Be Lonely."

The Band Perry switched labels and went for more of a pop sound without much success.

CD review - Pioneer Sports fans may be familiar with the term "sophomore slump," where a player has an excellent rookie season, but then struggles mightily in his second. With "Pioneer," The Band Perry demonstrates that the phrase can carry over to the music world as well. Where the group's debut was quirky and showed real potential, their second release takes some artistic steps backwards while developing a more mainstream sound. The lead single and opening track, Better Dig Two, also ...
CD review - The Band Perry (full length CD) Image-wise, the siblings of The Band Perry are aiming squarely at the youth market. Sister and lead singer Kimberly has a Taylor Swift thing going on, with big curly blonde hair, while brothers Neil and Reid could be Jonases as easily as Perrys. Their musical style trends young, as well. There's an element of bluegrass in the music, but it's often more of a grace note on top of the pop-rock guitars and drums that remain the focus of the album. Lyrically, the songs also offer a ...
The Band Perry gets its name from the fact that all three of its members are siblings. There's Kimberly Perry, who sings lead, in addition to playing piano and guitar. Her brother Reid Perry is the bassist, while Neil Perry plays drums, mandolin and accordion. The centerpiece song of this five-track EP is the single If I Die Young, which is made all the more striking by the fact that it's also sung by a young lady. Being young is usually no time to contemplate death - leave that to the old folks. ...
