Ricochet is back "Then & Now"

Thursday, May 25, 2023 – Ricochet, best known for their hit single "Daddy's Money," signed with Encore Music Group to release the band's first album in more than a decade.

"Ricochet Then & Now...The Hits & More," distributed by Smith Music Group, will be out Aug. 18, marking the 30th anniversary of the band's formation in 1993.

With various tracks being produced by Robert Wright, Justin Spears, Pat McMakin, and Eric Silver, the 16-track project reflects Ricochet's past success with new renditions of their classic hits, and introduces eight new songs.

For nearly two decades, original lead vocalist Heath Wright continued touring. Current band members are Chris Hempfling (vocals, drums), Rick Toops (vocals, keys), Bruce Bennett (vocals, bass) and Larry Hight (vocals, rhythm/lead guitar, steel, dobro, and saxophone).

"This is an exciting time for Ricochet. The '90s era of country music is hotter than ever and people are able to find our music quicker than ever, so to release our hits and new music for the first time in over 20 years is exciting," said Wright. "I hope everyone enjoys hearing these new recordings as much as we loved recording them. We went in and gave our old hits a new shine and then recorded some long-overdue new material for the fans. It is, in my opinion, the very best of RICOCHET... Then and Now!"

The track listing is:
THEN:
What Do I Know
Daddy's Money
Love Is Stronger Than Pride
He Left A Lot To Be Desired
What You Leave Behind
That's Love

NOW:
Keep You Lovin' Me
No Wrong Way
It's Gonna Be Something
The Beauty of Who You Are
Feel Like Fallin'
I Knew
I Had To Be
Sweet Tea
Freedom Isn't Free

The upcoming release will be the second album released by Encore Music Group this year with the late Jeff Carson's album just released.

"We are really excited about this forthcoming recording project from the award-winning band Ricochet," said Justin Ward, President of Encore Music Group. "They are one of the most beloved vocal groups in country music history, and Heath Wright's vocals are as strong as ever. We can't wait to get this music out to their fans and watch a new legion of fans discover them for the first time."

Wright is the lone original member. When starting 30 years ago, the band also included Jeff Bryant (drums, vocals) and Junior Bryant (fiddle, mandolin, vocals), Greg Cook (bass guitar, vocals), Teddy Carr (steel guitar, Dobro) and Eddie Kilgallon (keyboards, rhythm guitar, saxophone, vocals).

The group also had hits with "What Do I Know," "Love Is Stronger Than Pride" and "He Left A Lot To Be Desired."

CD reviews for Ricochet

The wait was a long time in coming for Ricochet's third album. And ultimately one wonders why as there is not a marked difference from this and previous efforts, which veered towards the high energy, pop end of country. Lead singer Heath Wright showcases a vibrant voice, good with country, pop and soulful material, but the problem is a good half of the 10 songs never rise above mediocre. The songs are almost predictable musically with Wright's vocals quickly being reinforced by backing vocals and ...
In an era when bands are at a premium, Ricochet assumed the mantle as among the very few new groups gaining any kind of foothold. On their second outing, Ricochet put together an album seemingly done with an ear to radio. The title track even has an obvious line about being as fast as Ricochet bullet, which you know crowds will eat up in concert, but comes off as gimmicky. The sextet clearly mines the pop side of country on songs ("Connected at the Heart" and the HNC "You Still Got It") lacking ...
