The Secret Sisters release "Paperweight"

Wednesday, March 13, 2024 – The Secret Sisters today released the song "Paperweight" from their upcoming fifth album.

The song was a co-write by one-half of the sister- duo - Lydia Slagle and songwriter, Kate York.

The Secret Sisters - Lydia Slagle and Laura Rogers - said in a statement, "We've been delighted to discover a sense of contentment with our lives in the last few years, and that peace of mind is the source of this song. Alongside our buddy, Kate York, we wanted this track to speak to the joy of steadiness, the safety that comes with the familiar, and the calm of being committed."

"Paperweight" is the third song unveiled from The Secret Sisters' upcoming album, "Mind, Man, Medicine," out March 29 via New West Records. The duo has previously released two additional songs: "Same Water" and "All The Ways" featuring Ray LaMontagne. Produced by The Secret Sisters, John Paul White and Ben Tanner (St. Paul and the Broken Bones, Lera Lynn), and recorded mainly at Muscle Shoals' FAME Studios, "Mind, Man, Medicine" contains 11 songs.

The Sisters said, "Our fifth chapter is the one where we seek, savor and settle. The muse found us in the depths of raising children, nurturing relationships, surviving a world-changing virus, bidding farewell, shifting our mindsets and discovering a sense of peace heretofore unseen. Our third decade of life has proven to be one of routine, rest and realization, and these songs are about the lessons we've learned. We've learned to be space-holders and defenders of the people we hold close. We've learned from deep, steady love in various forms. We've learned to let go of people and perceptions and priorities that just didn't make the cut as we weighed what is right and important and worth keeping. We've learned how all the things we've always treasured continue to withstand the pressure of time. If you notice an upward trend to the mood and emotions, you're on target-we have found calm waters, for now."

The musicians include Tanner (piano, synthesizers, organs, Wurlitzer), White (acoustic guitar), Larry Campbell (electric guitar, fiddle), Zac Cockrell (bass), Jeremy Gibson (drums), Ken Lewis (percussion), Parker McAnnally (bass, dulcimer), Austin Motlow (synthesizer, electric guitar) and KS Rhoads (piano) and FAME's Studio Orchestra on "I Needed You."

The Secret Sisters will perform select headline shows this spring including stops at Austin's 04 Center, Dallas' Kessler Theater, Houston's Heights Theater, Nashville's Basement East, Chicago's Old Town School of Folk Music and Minneapolis' Parkway Theater.

CD review - Quicksand It may be a little jarring to hear The Secret Sisters harmonizing over the machine-like percussion of "Heavy Balloon," a Fiona Apple track taken from that singer/songwriter's esteemed "Fetch the Boltcutters" album. Although also colored by soulful organ and sparse electric guitar, these sonic elements cannot suppress distinctive sibling harmonies so familiar to fans of this duo. It's one of four fine tracks from a brief EP release. The project's title ...
CD review - Saturn Return Building off the framework built on their critically acclaimed 2017 release, "You Don't Own Me Anymore," The Secret Sisters, (sisters Laura and Lydia Rogers), return with "Saturn Return." Joined again by musical friends Brandi Carlile and Carlile band mates Phil Hanseroth, and Tim Hanseroth in the production booth, the duo lays out an album that delivers big on soulful harmonies, honest lyricism and an eclectic folk, pop and country soundscape. Featuring 10 tightly knit ...
CD review - You Don't Own Me Anymore Three albums into their career, the evolution of The Secret Sisters provide a thoroughly enjoyable experience for the listener. The beauty of their harmonies was evident from the first note, but their songwriting has progressed to the point that it deserves equal attention. "You Don't Own Me Anymore" is a high point for both their singing and writing abilities, mixing classic country music with modern Americana with a heavy dose of Faulkner-esque Southern Gothic atmosphere. ...
