Hunt, Smith, Top, Birge, Beckham put out new music
Newcomer Zach Top, a Washington native, is out with his debut, "Cold Beer & Country Music," the first release for the new Leo33 label. The Washington native mines the traditional side of country music and even wears a cowboy hat.
George Birge, who had a hit with "Mind on You," follows up with a seven-song EP, "Cowboy Songs," on RECORDS. He wrote five of the songs including the title track and new single.
Fresh off his first number one hit single, "23," Chayce Beckham put out his debut album, "Bad For Me," on 19 Recordings/Wheelhouse Records/BMG. Beckham helped write 9 of the 15 songs on the release. Ross Copperman produced the hit single, while Bart Butler produced the rest of the album. Beckham is the only artist to win American Idol singing his own songs, having won the competition three years ago.
Nate Smith, who had great success with his debut disc and the hit "World on Fire," is out with the seven-song EP, "Through The Smoke." The EP features new single "Bulletproof" and a cover of Nirvana's "Heart Shaped Box." "Make It With You" features The War & Treaty.
Ian Munsick goes the deluxe route today with "White Buffalo: Introduce You To God." With his 2023 album "White Buffalo," Munsick painted an ode to the West. The son of ranchers, the deluxe version contains 23 songs, including five new songs.
Blanco Brown is out with the EP, "Heartache & Lemonade" on Wheelhouse/BMG Nashville. The EP includes four tracks, including "Sunshine Shine" which kicked off this project in February. The additional tracks include "Good As it Gets," "Energy" and "Tailgating in the Sun." Brown previously had a hit with "The Git Up."
In celebration of its 25th anniversary, a special reissue of Shelby Lynne's "I Am Shelby Lynne," is out today via Monument Records. Released in April 1999, "I Am Shelby Lynne" served as a major turning point and breakthrough for Lynne leading to her winning Best New Artist at the 43rd GRAMMY Awards.

CD reviews
Nate Smith has a wonderful, quivering voice. It's a voice often pushed to its limit, though, because so many of the songs feature pounding drums and roaring electric guitars. It's a whole lot of pounding and roaring because it – like many (too many?) contemporary country albums – is extra-long. The deluxe edition, in fact, sports 26 songs and clocks in at nearly an hour-and-a-half. All this loud music is just a bit much, though, by the time all's said and done. ...
There are some interesting moments on Sam Hunt's "Southside" album, but interesting doesn't always equal good. The single "Hard To Forget" samples Webb Pierce's "There Stands The Glass," one of country music's best and most enduring drinking songs. It's ironic, though, how Hunt needed to sample an old country song in order to incorporate any hint of actual country music into his album. Interesting, yes, but it may make you reach back for a ...
