Miller makes Opry debut

Sunday, June 30, 2024 – Country traditionalist Alex Miller made his Grand Ole Opry debut last Thursday with a two-song set.

With his 1944 Martin D-18 in hand, Miller, 21, performed "Puttin' Up Hay" and his latest single release, "My Daddy's Dad."

"I think everyone who plays country music dreams of playin' the Opry," Miller said. "For me, it's been something my whole family hoped would come true one day. I wish my grandpa had lived long enough to see me step into that circle, 'cause I think I was floating in the air. It was a heck of a feeling. I know I'll never forget it."

Eddie Montgomery of Montgomery Gentry fame, made a trip to Miller's home in rural Lancaster, Ky. to invite Miller to help celebrate Montgomery's 15-year anniversary as an Opry member. "This is what country music means to me - helping a young musician achieve his dreams just like our heroes helped T-Roy and me."

Miller, who moved to Nashville in May, has two full-length releases and an EP he put out in April.

CD reviews for Alex Miller

CD review - Country In some ways you could call Alex Miller a walking contradiction. His baritone is a bit of a surprise when people hear it coming from a baby-faced guy standing 6'6". He's a very young country singer whose heart is in traditional country. And when he got career advice at 17 from a current-day country star, Luke Bryan on American Idol, Miller decided to stick to his country roots. "Country," a five-song EP, leaves no doubt that Miller's heart is in...well...country. ...
