Vassar, Steele team up again

Saturday, July 27, 2024 – Phil Vassar and Jeffrey Steele unveil their latest collaboration, "Like A Man's Supposed To," today.

"Like A Man's Supposed To" is a saxophone-enriched track that brings an upbeat energy.

"Like A Man's Supposed To" follows the pair's previous collaborative release, "Hillbillies in Hollywood.,"

Vassar said, "I absolutely love this fun, upbeat, saxophone infused song. It has a Huey Lewis vibe to it, which is amazing as he is a great friend and hero of mine."

"'Like A Man's Supposed To' was just that thing that happens when two players start talking about grooves and old songs. When Phil hit those first chords, we were off - it's the quintessential 'I broke your heart a million times, but this is the last chance I will ever need,' song," Steele added.

Vassar has 10 number 1 singles and 27 Top 40 hits, including "Carlene," "Just Another Day in Paradise," "Six-Pack Summer" and "When I Love You."

Steele has penned songs for Keith Urban, Eric Church, Zac Brown Band, Jimmy Buffett, Montgomery Gentry, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Cher, 38 Special, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Trace Adkins, LeAnn Rimes, Rascal Flatts and Van Zant, Joe Cocker, Little Feat ft. Bob Seger and Joe Bonamassa.

CD review - Traveling Circus Back in 1999, Phil Vassar was a welcome breath of fresh air for country music. He was a solid songwriter who penned hits for Jo Dee Messina and Tim McGraw, and as an artist, his energetic, piano-laden songs like Carlene, Last Day of My Life, and Just Another Day in Paradise, cut through the din of guitar-wielding male singers. Now, after a few albums that mostly failed to produce more than one hit single each, Vassar is trying to resurrect his heyday. Circus does have some solid tracks on it, ...
CD review - Hell on Wheels Judging from the cover of his latest album (which pictures a buff, blonde Jeffrey Steele in the middle of a Steven Tyler-esque moment at the mic), this rocker is at his best when he's on the road with a crowd. Steele refuses to rest on his laurels of being a hit songwriter of more than 60 top songs for artists like Faith Hill, Rascal Flatts, and Tim McGraw, an album producer for Montgomery Gentry and Keith Andersen, a judge for the popular TV show Nashville Star, and a recent Golden Globe ...
CD review - Countrypolitan Songwriting master Jeffrey Steele has taken a chance that even few top-selling artists would take: releasing three albums simultaneously, including this calm, string-laden effort. Steele trades in his jeans for a suit, a beer bottle for a cigar and a glass of brandy, and his electric axe for a piano and string section. Most startling, this well-known writer (who has penned more than 60 hits for acts like Tim McGraw and Montgomery Gentry) mostly foregoes his own compositions to cover country classics. ...
