Midland unveils "Barely Blue" tracks

Friday, August 2, 2024 – Midland revealed the track list today for their forthcoming album, "Barely Blue," out Sept. 20 via Big Machine Records and released the song "Vegas.

An ode to Sin City, "Vegas" reframes its infamous calling card of "what happens in Vegas..." into a brief, but true romance. The video, directed by Harper Smith, reflects the melancholy and vintage aesthetic of the song, finding the boys on the quieter side of the showbiz lights, betting and playing cards with enough whiskey to last all night.

Lead singer Mark Wystrach said, "'Vegas' is an homage to the wildest town in the world and the intense connections and losses that tend to happen in Sin City along the way. Sonically, the song feels like a tip of the cowboy hat to early George Strait classics penned by the legendary Dean Dillon."

Guitarist Jess Carson said, "'Vegas' takes Sin City's unofficial calling card "what happens in Vegas" and interprets it through a love story. The phrase instead here is a sweet and tender ode to an all too brief romance that lingers after the tellers have returned to their daily lives."

Produced by Dave Cobb, the eight-song collection finds bassist/vocalist Cameron Duddy, Wystrach and Carson leaning into the trio's harmonies.

"Vegas" is the third release from "Barely Blue," following the release of "Lucky Sometimes," and the album's first single, "Old Fashioned Feeling," was released in May.

The trio has also announced additional tour dates for "The Get Lucky Tour" that kicks off on Sept. 19 in Cincinnati and will make stops at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Col. on Oct. 12 with Jackson Dean and at the ACL Live in their hometown of Austin on Dec. 20.

CD reviews for Midland

CD review - The Last Resort Midland make it sound easy with the new "The Last Resort" EP. While the upbeat "Two To Two Step" is already a setlist favorite, much of this project – as well as a goodly portion of Midland's catalog – is slower and much more thoughtful. It's all good, though, and "The Last Resort" is just another small chapter in Midland's growing book of fine songs. Listening to Midland can be a little like a scenario where the Eagles' ...
CD review - Live from the Palomino As if creating a couple of neo-traditional country albums wasn't enough, Midland temporarily reopened North Hollywood's famed Palomino club to record its 10-song live album. This act intentionally links Midland to Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Linda Ronstadt and all the other luminaries that graced the original Palomino stage. Unlike Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan and many other contemporary country acts, though, Midland's music wouldn't have sounded all that out of place during the ...
CD review - Let it Roll Midland is more magicians than musicians. When the trio came out with their omnipresent 2017 single "Drinkin' Problem," they pulled off their first trick: a brand-new band to radio who sounded like old friends. Their sound and their look (matador jackets, mullets and high-density mustaches) were pure vintage. So why did it all seem progressive? Some of this is the landscape. Athletic-fit tee-shirts and a frat boy oversmile make the standard uniform for most of today's country crop. ...
