Kennedy "Can't Help My Country"
The new track, penned by Kennedy, Cameron Bedell and Heather Morgan, was inspired by the Birmingham, Ala. native's upbringing and experiences growing up in the south.
Kennedy's forthcoming debut full-length album, "Rooted," is set for release Oct. 18. Kennedy will do a string of release shows in Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Nashville and New York.
Kennedy also is nominated for two People's Choice Country Awards - The Collaboration Song of the Year and The Cover Song of the Year, both for her Beyoncé collaboration "BLACKBIIRD." The show airs on NBC and Peacock on Sept. 26.
"I've always had hints of other genres in my music and at times felt apprehensive about that because I felt this pressure to not color too much out of the country music lines," said Kennedy. "Writing sessions are basically a therapy session especially when you're writing with friends, and this song was definitely that for me. I just started talking about all my different experiences growing up in Alabama, and we came out with this very honest song that perfectly explains love for country music."
Earlier this summer, Kennedy released an anthemic track, "Cry" which samples the Timbaland produced Justin Timberlake mega-hit "Cry Me A River." She performed the song on GMA3, and it can also be heard in a series of McDonald's advertisements.
