Brooks accused of sexual assault; he denies it

Friday, October 4, 2024 – Garth Brooks was accused of sexual assault by a woman who said he raped her in a Los Angeles hotel room, according to a lawsuit filed in a California court on Thursday.

The woman, who was named, also claimed that the country superstar subjected her to numerous unwanted sexual advances over approximately two years, according to a lawsuit filed in a California court on Thursday. She has worked in the entertainment industry for decades as a hair and make-up artist.

The woman was described as a hair and makeup stylist who worked with Brooks from 2017 to about 2020. In one situation, the woman accused Brooks of placing her hands on his genitals when he came out of a shower.

Brooks issued a statement on Thursday saying he had been "hassled to no end with threats, lies and tragic tales of what my future would be if I did not write a check for many millions of dollars."

"Hush money, no matter how much or how little, is still hush money," he said. "In my mind, that means I am admitting to behavior I am incapable of — ugly acts no human should ever do to another."

Brooks apparently took action three weeks ago with an anonymous suit filed in federal court in Mississippi. In that case — titled John Doe v. Jane Roe — a man, apparently Brooks - said that a woman living in Mississippi made "false and outrageous allegations of sexual misconduct she claims occurred years ago." He asked a judge to protect his identity and to declare that the woman's accusations against him were false.

The woman's lawyers responded, alleging that the lawsuit was an attempt to silence her. They claimed they would soon name the person in further court filings.,

The Los Angeles lawsuit indicates that the person named in Mississippi is one and the same and names Brooks as the defendant in Mississippi.

The woman said she was hired in 1999 to work for Trisha Yearwood, who has been married to Brooks since 2017. That is also the year she started working for Brooks.

The woman claimed in the suit that while working at Brooks' home, she "looked up in horror as Brooks walked out of the shower, naked, with an erection." She alleged that Brooks grabbed her hands and put them onto his genitals.

The suit said the woman rebuffed Brooks.

The woman also said that she took a private plane to Los Angeles with Brooks for a concert. They went to a hotel where she realized they would be together in a suite with only one bedroom. The suit claims Brooks was naked, grabbed the woman and raped her.

The woman continued working for Brooks, and said Brooks continued to harass her by telling her about graphic sexual fantasies involving her and sending suggestive text messages.

The woman moved to Mississippi in 2020, according to the suit.

CD reviews for Garth Brooks

CD review - Gunslinger If naming your release "Gunslinger," you'd better let it rip and go for a harder country sound, especially if donning a black cowboy hat on the cover. The reality does not exactly match that sentiment for Garth Brooks, but at times he comes mighty close. The high points for Brooks are the three most traditional country songs - a couple of honky tonkers ("Honky-Tonk Somewhere" and "Cowboys and Friends") and a ballad ("Whiskey to Wine"). ...
CD review - Man Against Machine After releasing his debut album in 1989, Garth Brooks released music almost every year until he announced his retirement in 2000. Since then, he has released repackaged hit collections, new music on "Scarecrow" and "The Lost Sessions" and last year's cover song collection "Blame it All on My Roots." Over the years, there have been live recordings, concert and music video collections. The country songwriter became a pop culture icon, transcending genre to become ...
CD review - Blame It All On My Roots - Five Decades of Influences Garth Brooks is back with his first release of "new" material since 2001's "Scarecrow." (Truth in advertising, his "The Ultimate Hits," which actually is part of the new box set, included four new songs back in 2007). And it's quite an undertaking - four CDs of covers - Country Classics, Classic Rock, Blue-Eyed Soul and Melting Pot, an amalgam of country, rock, soul and folk; the two-CD set, "The Ultimate Set" and a DVD of his live performance in Vegas. ...
