Doyle Lawson finishes recording new disc, looks for March release

– Doyle Lawson works real fast. He just completed yet another album two weeks ago and now the word is that the Horizon label is looking to release it March 18. "Help is On the Way" contains 14 songs with religious themes.
"I spend a lot of time collecting and listening to songs as I prepare to make a recording," said Lawson. "I review literally hundreds of songs and then narrow it down to a collection of 12 to 14 songs. I have always been pretty much theme oriented. I like for each song to mesh with the others. Once I get the theme going, sometimes there are songs that I really like, but I don't record because they don't flow with the concept that I have in mind."
"The theme for this recording started when I heard the song, 'Help Is On the Way.' I had already gathered a number of songs I thought were really good, but when I heard this one I knew it was the one to build on."
Lawson's backing band, Quicksilver, consists of Darren Beachley - guitar, lead and harmony vocals; Alan Johnson - fiddles, bass vocals; Joey Cox - banjo and rhythm guitar; Carl White - bass and piano, lead & harmony vocals and Josh Swift - Dobro and percussion, harmony vocals

Life really is just a story, a collection of memories we share to remember moments, circumstances, life lessons, heartache, friends and family, the good times and the bad. Over 40 years in the music business has certainly given Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver plenty of stories to share, remember and pass on, making "Life Is A Story" essentially a book on tape, albeit set to Lawson's high standard of powerful and polished instrumentation.

Mandolinist and bandleader Doyle Lawson is one of the giants of bluegrass music with a long list of honors and awards, but he and his rotating group Quicksilver may be at their best on Lawson's many gospel music albums. Over the last 30 years, he has alternated secular and sacred releases on a regular basis, with the gospel albums leaning toward a capella quartet sounds and much of the fast-paced picking on the secular sides.
