Johnson, Barrett, Flatland Cavalry release new sounds

Friday, November 8, 2024 – Jamey Johnson finally returns to action with "Midnight Gasoline" on Warner Nashville, marking is the singer's first album in 14 years! This is the first of his Cash Cabin Series, which is a collection of albums recorded at the famed studio in Hendersonville, Tenn., that was owned by Johnny and June Carter Cash and is now owned by their son, John Carter Cash. Johnson spent three weeks recording about 30 songs there, sleeping in his bus that was parked outside. The release contains a dozen songs.

Gabby Barrett goes the holiday route with "Carols and Candlelight," her first holiday disc. Barrett includes 11 songs from the familiar of "Baby It's Cold Outside" featuring her husband Cade Foehner, to Dolly Parton's "A Christmas to Remember."

Flatland Cavalry includes new and old with "Flatland Forever" on Interscope Records. The release contains four new songs and alternate versions of previously released tracks. Based in both Texas and Nashville, Flatland Cavalry is Cleto Cordero (vocals, acoustic guitar), Jason Albers (drums, percussion), Jonathan Saenz (bass, background vocals), Reid Dillon (electric guitar), Wesley Hall (fiddle) and Adam Gallegos (piano, organ, keys, mandolin, banjo, acoustic guitar, Wurlitzer, Mellotron).

CD review - Flatland Forever Some may argue that Flatland Cavalry is a bit full of themselves by issuing this career retrospective after only 10 years on the circuit. Granted, they have been prolific with six full-length albums, multiple EPs and singles. Record contracts also often specify a certain number of albums in a given time period. "Flatland Forever" contains 25 tracks of classics, demos and unheard until now offerings. Maybe it is just the band reflecting on where they've been and where they are headed. ...
CD review - Chapter & Verse Gabby Barrett's sophomore album ''Chapter and Verse" has a lot of material she can draw from as a mother of three, and the importance of family and faith pervades the album. She enlisted some of music city's best songwriting talent in in the form of Ross Copperman and Hillary Lindsey. The opening track "The "Chapter" is a bouncy number that is indicative of the collection sonically as she realizes life is a series of stages to be navigated. ...
