Melton leaves Balsam Range

While he didn't specify exact plans, Melton said he would continue making music.

Balsam Range formed in 2007 in western North Carolina and won13 IBMA awards on the heels of 13 releases. Melton won the IBMA Male Vocalist of the Year in 2018.

"After a lot of thought and prayer, and trust me, this has been a long debating process in my head, I have made the decision to step away from Balsam Range. The Balsam Range time period has been an incredible chapter in my life. I am extremely proud of all we have accomplished, and I hope my contributions to Balsam Range have had a positive impact on others. We have taken the heritage of Haywood County, N.C., around the world and created a musical legacy that will continue for years to come."

Balsam Range members include Dr. Marc Pruett (banjo); Alan Bibey ( Mandolin, vocals) Tim Surrett (bass, Dobro, baritone and lead vocals); and Caleb Smith (guitar, lead and baritone vocals). It was unclear how Melton would be replaced.
