The Castellows, Flatland Cavalry team up

Wednesday, January 22, 2025 – The Castellows and Flatland Cavalry merge together on "Place They Call Home," out Friday.

Sung from the Earth's point of view, the song was written by The Castellows' Ellie Balkcom, Lily Balkcom, and Powell Balkcom, with Cleto Cordero of Flatland Cavalry.

Lyrics include:
For as long as I remember, been staring at the sky
Looking to the Father, a billion twinkles in His eye
Listen to Him whisper, sweet song through the pines
Been a witness of his wonders since the dawn of time

I was made to be walked on but I'll stand my ground
To wandering souls that lost their way, know you're always found
I was made to be walked on so go where you're gonna get to
I'll always be around
I'm here for you

I'm rivers, rocks and mountains, got no flesh and bones
I ain't ashamed to claim the name "Footstool to His throne"
From lonesome plains to thundering rains, a peaceful spirit roams
I'm a mother to His children, the place that they call home

I was made to be walked on but I'll stand my ground
To wandering souls that lost their way, know you're always found
I was made to be walked on so go where you're gonna get to
I'll always be around
I'm here for you

From falling trees to colonies, your work is never done
Forged from dust and turning rust to towers in the sun
But pride and rage and battles waged on wars never won
You try to break my heart in two but I'm for everyone

I was made to be walked on but I'll stand my ground
To wandering souls that lost their way, know you're always found
I was made to be walked on so go where you're gonna get to

I'll always be around
I'm here for you

I wasn't made to be fought on if that's what you're gonna do
Til I'm not around
I'm here for you

Dwight A. Baker produced the song, which was recorded at Matchbox Studios in Austin.

The Castellows, who are from Georgia, released their ddebut EP, "A Little Goes A Long Way," on Feb. 9. 2024 and the follow-up three-song EP, "Alabama Stone" on Dec. 6. The Castellows will join Thomas Rhett on his Better In Boots Tour including a stop at Boston's Fenway Park on July 19.

CD review - Flatland Forever Some may argue that Flatland Cavalry is a bit full of themselves by issuing this career retrospective after only 10 years on the circuit. Granted, they have been prolific with six full-length albums, multiple EPs and singles. Record contracts also often specify a certain number of albums in a given time period. "Flatland Forever" contains 25 tracks of classics, demos and unheard until now offerings. Maybe it is just the band reflecting on where they've been and where they are headed. ...
CD review - Wandering Star " Wandering Star" is the fourth album from the Lubbock, Texas/Nashville-based sextet, Flatland Calvary who straddle the line between country and alternative country. Frontman and principal songwriter Cleto Cordero (vocals, acoustic guitar) is joined by Jason Albers, Jonathan Saenz, Reid Dillon, Wesley Hall and Adam for these 13 songs, mostly ballads and country anthems, and a couple of harder rockers. Judging by the lyrics and the thematic content, Cordero seems like the kind of guy ...
CD review - Welcome to Countryland The third full-length release from the Lubbock,Texas-based Flatland Cavalry is an appealing mix of alt.-country with influences from the outlaw movement and '90s mainstream country. Frontman Cleto Cordero handles lead vocal duties along with writing or co-writing 13 of the 14 tracks. The opening "Country Is..." has a Merle Haggard feel and examines what defines "country" with such references as "But a steel guitar paints this old heart a shade of Cowboy Blue" ...
