Brown, Myers, Springsteen, McNown drop new music

Friday, January 24, 2025 – Kane Brown is back with "The High Road" on Sony Music Nashville/Zone 4. Brown conceived the 18-song release over a two-year period. Brown teamed up with Brad Paisley for self-reflection on "Things We Quit," hooked up again with Khalid for the R&B infused "Rescue," as well as "Haunted," with Jelly Roll, on a vulnerable nod to their journey with their own mental health. He also teamed up with hish wife, Katelyn Brown, on two tracks, the previously released sultry "Body Talk" and emotional and personal ballad, "Do Us Apart."

Teen sensation and traditionalist with a soulful bent Ty Myers debuts with "The Select" on RECORDS Nashville/Columbia Records. The 16-song set includes "Ends of the Earth and the previously released "Drunk Love," "Can't Hold Me Down," "Worry is a Sickness," and "Drinkin' Alone," as well as his debut single "Tie That Binds." Myers, who hails from the Austin area, wrote 12 of the songs on his own and collaborated on two others.

Nashville-based Oregon-raised singer-songwriter Max McNown released his sophomore album, "Night Diving," on Fugitive Recordings/The Orchard/Columbia Records. The 10-song release includes "Roses and Woles," featuring Hailey Whitters. McNown is on the folk end of country. This is the follow-up to last year's "Wandering."

Columbia Records/Sony Music Nashville artist-songwriter Alana Springsteen shares her all-new EP, "Alana Springsteen: Live from the Ryman." The seven-song set was recorded liveduring her first full-band set at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on Nov. 21. The EP starts with "you don't deserve a country song (Live from the Ryman)" and ends with "goodbye looks good on you."

"Looking For The Thread" is the first collaborative album from Mary Chapin Carpenter, Julie Fowlis and Karine Polwart, out today via Thirty Tigers. Conceived in the remote west of Scotland and recorded at the renowned Real World studios, Bonny Light Horseman's Josh Kaufman produced the 10-track album. After first setting up a Dropbox to share ideas remotely, the three convened in January 2023 to perform alongside Robert Vincent at Song Circle, an event at Celtic Connections in Glasgow, Scotland. From there, they headed north to a writing retreat at Kinlochmoidart House, where the disc was born. The album features two tracks sung in Scottish Gaelic (led by Fowlis) and was completed in a week at Real World studios, where the tracks were recorded live, everyone playing together in the same room.

Charles Esten marked the one-year anniversary of his independent debut album with the double vinyl release of "Love Ain't Pretty Deluxe Edition." Co-writing all 14 songs with acoustic guitar credits on the Marshall Altman-produced full-length project, Esten adds nine new bonus tracks to this special edition delivery. He also included collaborations with Keb' Mo' and Sara Evans on "In A Bar Somewhere." The 23-track "Deluxe Edition" further includes never-before-heard demos and work tapes from the creation of "Love Ain't Pretty" plus a live performance recorded from the sold-out NASHVILLE Reunion Tour (with Esten, Clare Bowen, Jonathan Jackson, and Sam Palladio).

CD review - Love Ain't Pretty Charlie Esten is known playing ace guitarist Deacon Claybourne on the ABC hit show "Nashville." Esten has been acting and playing music under the radar long before he was cast in the show and developed an indie following that culminated in the release of his debut album. "Love Ain't" Pretty" is an ambitious, 14-track effort where Esten co-wrote all of the songs. Thematically, he tapped into the universal phenomenon of love in all its facets and tackling the difficult ...
CD review - Different Man It's easy to be skeptical about Kane Brown's country music credibility, as he often times releases music that has more in common with R&B than anything honky tonk-ready. Those who watched Brown perform "Grand" on the MTV VMAs this year, might not even know there's a country music bone in his body. That cut is far more in The Weeknd stylistic spectrum than the rest of the album, though. In contrast, "I Love You Like I Love Country Music," which is getting ...
CD review - The Dirt and the Stars There is an air of quiet reflection on Mary Chapin Carpenter's 15th studio album. Although its 11 tracks were written and recorded prior to the global pandemic, "The Dirt and the Stars" is an appropriate artistic statement for these times - days in which socially-isolated people are left with more time to contemplate life and the human condition. Recorded live at Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios in Bath, England under the watchful eye of producer Ethan Johns, Carpenter ...
