Earle to join Opry
Saturday, April 26, 2025 – Steve Earle was invited to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry tonight by Opry member Vince Gill.
Earle is the first artist invited to join the Opry in the Opry's 100th year and will officially be inducted later this year.
Gill took the stage after Earle's performance of "Copperhead Road", presenting Earle with a personalized guitar strap created in celebration of the Opry's 100th. "You have to be an Opry member to have one of these," Gill continued. "We want to invite you to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry."
Clearly moved, Earle said, "This is kind of the biggest thing that has ever happened to me in my life." He then obliged Gill's request for another song, "Hillbilly Highway."

A decade after recording his tribute to Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle has released an album of Guy Clark covers. It includes, perhaps, Clark's best-known songs, "L.A. Freeway" and "Desperados Waiting For A Train," as well as a slew of songs not known quite so well. Most significantly, it's an album that showcases the breadth of Clark's work. Clark was a songwriter's songwriter, something many of the best Americana songwriters - including Earle - know well. ...
If Steve Earle had never done another album after "Guitar Town" and "Copperhead Road," he'd still have cemented his place in the musical firmament for skillfully creating a ragged and beautiful tapestry from the stray threads of rootsy rock and authentic country.
