Vince Gill, Kathy Mattea, Michael Martin Murphey play IBMA Fan Fest

Wednesday, July 30, 2008 – Vince Gill, Kathy Mattea and Michael Martin Murphey will be among the acts at the International Bluegrass Music Association's Bluegrass Fan Fest Oct. 3-5 in Nashville. The event features more than 60 acts on 4 stages.

Attendees can also visit a bluegrass music-themed exhibit hall with more than 100 booths and jam sessions for musicians of all ages and levels of expertise.

Gill has hosted the IBMAs before, but Oct. 4 will mark his first appearance at Fan Fest.

Proceeds from Fan Fest ticket sales benefit the Bluegrass Trust Fund, established to help bluegrass professionals during times of emergency need, as well as IBMA's marketing and educational events during the year. All artists appearing at the event donate their time and talents for the cause.

"As far as I'm concerned, bluegrass music owns the deepest talent pool in any genre of music today," said Fan Fest producer Carl Jackson. "To have so many wonderful artists step up to the plate and donate their time and effort for the IBMA Trust Fund speaks volumes about the music and the entire bluegrass community."

Others performing include The Grascals, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Bradley Walker, Dale Ann Bradley, The Dan Tyminski Band, Tony Trischka, Cherryholmes, Jesse McReynolds Family & Friends, J.D. Crowe, Blue Highway, Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out, David Parmley & Continental Divide, Paul Williams & Victory Trio, Special Consensus, Dailey & Vincent, Don Rigsby & Midnight Call and The Larry Stephenson Band.

And there is quite a lot that works on his first solo album since 2011's "Guitar Slinger." (He did release the excellent "Bakersfield" with Paul Franklin in 2013). Gill prefers a more soulful approach, ...
CD review - Guitar Slinger It's hard to believe, considering what Vince Gill has accomplished over the past three decades, but the triple threat singer-songwriter-guitar picker may be in the most creative, productive stretch of his lengthy, remarkable career. Five years after Gill's Grammy-winning 4-album 43-song box set "These Days," his latest 12-song release again finds Gill tapping every ounce of his immense talents. The title song sums up his reputation as an ax man worthy of playing Eric ...
CD review - These Days To put this release into perspective, it would take Axl Rose the better half of a century to issue the same amount of material. Fortunately, Vince Gill is about as prolific as they come these days, and this daring four-disc release only is further proof of that. Each disc is divvied up depending on his mood, with the opening "Working On A Big Chill" album being "The Rockin' Record." And this album sets things off right with the lovely mid-tempo and groovy title track. ...
