Julianne Hough suffers from endometriosis, needs appendix removed

Tuesday, October 28, 2008 – Julianne Hough was diagnosed with endometriosis and will undergo "minor surgery to remove her appendix," she said on her web site Tuesday. Hough experienced mild stomach pains last week and was taken to Cedars Sinai medical center. There was no word on when the surgery would be.

After consulting with her doctor, this course of treatment was recommended. Hough spoke about it on Monday night's "Dancing with the Stars" and plans on returning to the show in a week to dance with celebrity partner Cody Linley if they continue to advance in the competition. Pro dancer, Edyta Sliwinska, will fill in for Hough as Linley's partner this week should he make it through tomorrow's elimination.

Endometriosis is the development of uterine-lining tissue outside the uterus on the surfaces of organs in the pelvis or abdomen where they are not supposed to grow. It is a common medical condition found in 5-10 percent of women of reproductive age around the world.

If her self-titled debut is any indication, she may have a bright future moonlighting as a country singer. The Utah native's brand of country fits squarely into the young, energetic and playful mold of contemporaries like Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift and Kellie Pickler with light-hearted songs like the single "That Song In My Head" and "You, You, You," which features the ...
