Underwood becomes first woman nominated for ACM entertainer since 2000
Wednesday, February 11, 2009 – Carrie Underwood became the first woman to be nominated for entertainer of the year by the Academy of Country Music Wednesday. She also was nominated as Top Female Vocalist and Video of The Year for Just a Dream.
"I am so humbled and blessed with the recognition of these nominations by my fellow artists and the country music community," said Underwood. "My band, crew and everyone on my team have worked so hard the past year with my first big tour, so the Entertainer nomination is especially rewarding for all of us. I think I'm still in shock."
Women who have won the Entertainer of The Year award in the past include Loretta Lynn (1975), Dolly Parton (1977), Barbara Mandrell (1980), Reba McEntire (1994), Shania Twain (1999), and Dixie Chicks (2000).
