Alan Jackson's Sissy's Song debuts today
Jackson wrote it after the sudden death of Leslie "Sissy' Fitzgerald who worked in the Jackson household and who the Jacksons saw every day. Sissy died on May 20 2007, in a motorcycle accident, and left behind a college age daughter and high school age son and her husband, who is an expert car restorer and also works for the Jackson's.
"I didn't sleep for a while," said Jackson." So, I sat down one day and wrote this song and after that I felt all right." Jackson recorded the song and gave it to the Fitzgerald family for the funeral. "A lot of people told me how much it made them feel better and helped them get through it a little easier, so I was very proud of it."
The video was directed by Scott Scovill and shot in black and white at the Bear Creek Church in Culleoka, Tenn., 60 miles south of Nashville. The church and its cemetery were added to the National Registry of Historic Places in 1985. It was a place of worship and safety for Confederate soldiers during the Civil War. Jackson has scored three consecutive number one singles from "Good Time" - Small Town Southern Man, Good Time and Country Boy, which became his 34th chart topper.
