Chesney rushes to defend Sugarland over cancellations

Wednesday, July 22, 2009 – Kenny Chesney rushed to the defense of touring mates Sugarland for cancelling appearances with him due to Jennifer Nettles' vocal problems. Chesney cited negative reaction on blog sites about the cancellation.

"It was really sad to see the way some people reacted to Jennifer needing to cancel her appearance in San Francisco last weekend - and it seems to me we should all be concerned about her long term vocal health more than any single show that she may not be able to do," said Chesney. "Naturally I'm disappointed she's not out here with us - cause she is a friend as well as an act I know the fans enjoy - but I think it's more important that she have the time to heal properly, rather than forcing herself to try and rush back onstage."

"I know she'll be back before the summer, and can't wait to have her back out there. But it's about doing the right thing, and we should all be supporting her in that."

Sugarland announced on their web site they were not going to appear on Chesney's Sun City Carnival Tour last week in Dallas and San Francisco and this week in Salt Lake City.

At least several fans posted negative comments on the CMT web site.

Lady Antebellum and Miranda Lambert are playing extended sets on the tour in Sugarland's absence.

CD review - Here and Now deluxe After a storied run including eight Entertainer of the Year awards and two Greatest Hits albums (so far), Kenny Chesney was due for a setback. This one wasn't strictly personal, as the "Chillaxification" Tour got waylaid by a pandemic shutdown that scrapped most everything. The loss really belonged to the fans, as the original "Here and Now" record Chesney was supporting was a beauty – from the stirring "Knowing You" to the snarky "Wasted", ...
CD review - Here and Now For many years now, Kenny Chesney has been the number one yacht country artist; one never spotted far from an ocean or without an adult beverage in his hand. However, this album's title track expresses a much deeper perspective on life. "I must've sat on a dozen islands/Watched the sun sink into the sea." Previously, island living was the reason for life. Now, life's purpose is described as much more internal than external. Call it trading that pirate flag for a little more mindfulness. ...
CD review - BIGGER, Louder, Live It almost goes without saying that in today's fickle music world you have to constantly be atop your game, generating new content lest your listeners move on to the next selection in their Spotify shuffle. Thus, artists can't be content with dropping a new album every year or two and resting on their past accomplishments; now they've got to churn out EP's, live recordings and more to keep their audience satiated and satisfied. Realizing this truth, country duo Sugarland fights ...
