Clint Black feels the love on new CD

Thursday, January 4, 2007 – Clint Black will release "The Love Songs," a fresh set of some of his love songs, Jan. 30. The 12-song collection, which includes “When I Said I Do,” the Grammy-nominated duet with his wife Lisa Hartman Black, will be released on the Equity Music Group label.

According to Black, many of the songs remain true to the original version, while a few get a slight update. “I wanted to do a record that’s not just a reissue of hits,” Black said. “Sometimes when I go back and revisit my older recordings, I find little things that, in hindsight, I feel I could improve on just a bit—some new twist that might make it just a little bit better. It might be a slight change in the arrangement, or the way vocals are layered. And there were also times when I listened to a particular recording and felt there really wasn’t a change that would make it better.”

“Clint has positively affected so many people’s lives and relationships with his love songs, we thought it would be appropriate to put them all on one CD and have it out in time for Valentine’s Day,” said Equity president Mike Kraski.

The CD will include “Something That We Do,” “My Imagination” and “Half The Man.” This collection will also feature one non-Black-penned song, Jim Croce’s classic “I’ll Have To Say I Love You In A Song.”

“I’m a huge Jim Croce fan, so it was a natural for me to include his song in this collection,” Black explained. “I was trying to find my own voice in this cover, but it is hard to get away from that original Croce sound, which is so good. While his is more of a rolling, finger pickin’ style, my version has a slower groove—more of an R&B style.”

The cover artwork will be an original Peter Max painting of Black and his wife Lisa Hartman Black.

Black also is planning to release a new full-length album of original songs later this year.

CD reviews for Clint Black

CD review - Out of Sane Clint Black may not be the commercial superstar he was in the late '80s/early '90s, but "Out of Sane" - his first studio project in five years - reveals the same high level song craftsmanship that brought him well deserved fame in the first place. These 12 songs - many written with Steve Wariner - prove Black is still quite the sharp songsmith. Whether he's performing something strongly bluegrass instrumental-ed ("With Love") or pulling out his harmonica for the ...
CD review - On Purpose Clint Black must sometimes feel like an alien fallen to earth when comparing his music -- such as the many fine new songs found on his latest "On Purpose" album - with what's in vogue on the mainstream country charts. Rather than partying till he pukes, as so many of his younger brethren are doing these days, Black oftentimes waxes philosophical. "Not everything's gonna go my way," he admits during the sometimes funny reflections found in "Better and Worse. ...
CD review - The Long Cool EP This is a four-song teaser from Clint Black, including a few covers of chestnuts. He countrifies The Hollies' "Long Cool Woman" and maintains a bouncy feel with the vocal chops to pull the classic off. He rocks a bit with a steady drum beat, but with sturdy fiddle playing, the country vibe is apparent. "You Still Get To Me" is another well sung Black duet with wife Lisa Hartman Black. Written by Black with Victoria Shaw, the soulful-oriented song is catchy, but too glossy sounding. ...
