Willie Nelson's ex-wife dies
Thursday, January 28, 2010 – Willie Nelson's ex-wife, Shirley, with whom he had his first chart single, died
at 78, it was announced Thursday.
Shirley Collie Nelson was born March 16, 1931 in Chillicothe, Mo. Formerly married to Biff Collie, one of country music great disc-jockey's, she also was married to Nelson.
She charted three singles on the Billboard country charts - Dime a Dozen at 25, Why Baby Why at 23 (a duet with Warren Smith), both in 1961, and Willingly at 10, a duet with then-husband Willie Nelson)in March 1962. The Nelson duet was also his first chart single.
