Lady A returns to number one

Wednesday, March 10, 2010 – Lady Antebellum will return to number 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart as the top selling disc in the country when the charts are out Thursday. "Need You Now" takes over for Sade's "Soldier of Love," which will be second.

Lady A had been in second for three weeks. The disc sold 126,000 units, up 6 percent. The disc totaled 481,000 units sold in its first week and stayed first for a second week with sales of 209,000. "Need You Now" was far ahead of Sade's disc, which sold 79,000, down 37 percent.

The last time a release returned to the top after being out for three weeks was Taylor Swift's "Fearless" for the Dec. 27, 2009 chart.

Blake Shelton's new "Hillbilly Bone" debuted in third with 71,000 units sold. The release is his sixth album and contains six songs, resulting in a reduced price at retailers compared with full length CDs. This was Shelton's best sales week since his second album, "The Dreamer," with 77,000 units sold in 2003.

Danny Gokey's debut "My Best Days" was fourth with 65,000 units sold and will be third on the country chart.

Easton Corbin's debut settled in at 10 on the top 200 chart with 43,000 units sold.

Overall sales for the week ending March 7 continued to be down - 11 percent for a comparable week of 2009.

Humans have come to believe the cliché, 'Time heals all wounds,' as if it were some sort of scientific fact. But what if it's just that, a well-worn cliché, with no actual ...
CD review - Heart Break Lady Antebellum may cause you to throw out many of your country music principles. They don't sing and play traditional country music, for starters. They're not cool like more rocking Americana artists. In fact, they're huge mainstream country stars. So, why are some of us still suckers for their sound? And why does the new "Heart Break" sound so good on the ears? Well, it's simple, but complicated. Hillary Scott is simply a wonderfully sincere singer. ...

CD review - 747 Six albums into its career, Lady Antebellum pretty much has the formula down pat. Either Hillary Scott or long and lanky Charles Kelley assumes lead vocals with Dave Haywood also providing vocals plus guitars and mandolin in a bunch of songs easy on the ears with a story often involving a lust for love. The typical song ("Lie With Me," for example) starts with Kelly or Scott taking a stanza, followed by the other with both then tackling the chorus together. This has worked quite well ...
