Rawlings tops AMA with four nominatons

Wednesday, May 12, 2010 – Dave Rawlings led the list of Americana Music Association nominations with four, it was announced Wednesday. Texas songwriters Ray Wylie Hubbard and Ryan Bingham received three. Patty Griffin, The Avett Brothers and Hayes Carll garnered two nominations.

The winners will be announced Sept. 9 at Ryman Auditorium during the 9th Annual Americana Music Association's Honors and Awards Show. Hosted by Jim Lauderdale and featuring a band led by Buddy Miller, the Honors & Awards ceremony will also recognize Lifetime Achievements and bestow awards in Performance, Songwriting and Instrumentalist and other important categories. Additional honorees and performers will be announced in the coming months.

The awards show is part of the 11th Annual Americana Festival and Conference being held Wednesday, Sept. 8 through Saturday, Sept. 11.

The nominees were picked by members of the Americana Music Association. Eligibility is based on work released between May 1, 2009 and March 31.

CD review - A Friend of a Friend Although he's often the accompanying yin to Gillian Welch and her Appalachian-inspired yang, Dave Rawlings has branched out with this new project and album. Although not the standard 10 or 11-song album, Rawlings nails most of these songs out of the park, especially the lovable and endearing first effort Ruby which sounds like the perfect b-side to the Stones' Angie.
